It\u2019s a hidden gem, not on westerner\u2019s travel\u00a0list.\u00a0<\/span>However,\u00a0it should be because it has wonderful cultural sites, fabulous food, very friendly people and great hotels! There are numerous must-see places of interest in this state and on a recent India small group tour, I was\u00a0blown away by\u00a0three of the best\u2026<\/div>\n<div class=\"p1\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Konark\u00a0Sun Temple\u00a0is a 13th-century Hindu Temple about an hour\u2019s drive from\u00a0Puri,\u00a0a lovely coastal town on the Bay of Bengal.\u00a0The temple is attributed to King\u00a0Narasimhadeva\u00a0I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. Dedicated to the Hindu god Surya,\u202fthe temple complex is about 30 metres high and was designed like a chariot.\u00a0 A closer look at the magnificent stonework reveals horses and wheels all carved from stone. This beautiful building is a photographer\u2019s dream, especially in the morning or afternoon when the sun hits it.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jagganath\u00a0Mandur is also a masterpiece of Hindu architecture and one of the most important pilgrim sights in India for the Hindu faith. You reach the temple after a fascinating walk through the town of\u00a0Puri\u00a0itself,\u00a0which,\u00a0is highly entertaining and\u00a0could be considered \u201cclassic\u201d India. Look out for cows,\u00a0tuk-tuks, bicycles, rickshaws and the occasional car. One of\u00a0the best views of the temple and the streets below is from the balcony of the old colonial style library across the road.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bhubaneswar is the capital city of\u00a0Odisha\u00a0and has many temples, markets and other places of interest. Top of the list is the\u00a0Lingaraja\u00a0Temple \u2013 a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and built during the 11<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0century.
